Born on 27 February 1983 in New York, Kate Mara knew that she was going into the field of acting from very young age. Her desire to become an actress became more vibrant when she saw the production of Les Miserable when she was a small kid. She was avid fan of stage drama and Judy Garland Films. She always had the dreams of working in TV and films since her childhood. She started acting at the age of nine by performing in a school musical act. She also acted in lots of young theatre groups and also performed in school plays and local theatres. Mara had appointed her mother as her agent in early days and her mother managed to send her photographs to few agencies and thus she started her professional career at 14. Her first audition was for the TV drama â��Homicide: life on the streetâ��. She was denied the role but she had made her full mind that she will only work in show business since then on.

Mara debuted on Camera in her early teenage. She got her first break through an American TV series Law and order in 1997. She got many offers along with other TV series like CSI and Cold Case, Nip/Tuck. After spending few months doing acting she knew that she had to concentrate more on acting and thus she left her college and started doing full time acting. Her role as a computer analyst in the series 24 got her many offers from the film too. Her major break through in films was in blockbuster movie Brokeback Mountain in 2005 where she won the Academy Awards for a supporting role. Mara had done one of the most powerful roles in the movie and though she had a supporting role but audience did notice her in the movie and lauded her performance.

Kate Mara spent her early days in New York and grew up in Westchester in City of Angels. Two years after her debut in Law and order she got a role in Sydney Pollackâ�™s drams Random Hearts. The film was not much appreciated and was criticized by many people but Kate Mara still made her presence felt in the movie and this made her able to get the roles in CSI and the popular series 24. Her extra ordinary performance in Brokeback paved her way for lot more offers and roles. Kate was obsessed with football since her childhood and her passion got her a role in MCG's Sports drams â��We are Marshallâ��. Her latest appearance was in Antoine Fuquaâ�™s action packed drams called Shooter in 2007.
